THIS IS ALL ABOUT YOU ~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ PAST EVENTS: 2017 ~~~ September 14 @ 7 PM: Debbie Marriott Musical Freestyle Creation Debbie Marriott is dedicated to the dedicated to the development of musical freestyles and has earned the reputation as one of the nation's leading Freestyle Designers. Her strength is in designing innovative, audience appealing, affordable freestyles for a wide variety of riders. She is proud to have a distinguished list of clients ranging from USDF Licensed Judges to pleasure riders. Her clients have proudly ridden their musical freestyles at such prestigious shows including Dressage at Devon, USDF Dressage Finals ("Nationals"), GAIGS, BLM Championships and more. August 10 @ 7 PM: Brenda Lantz - French Classical Dressage Brenda will discuss the key components of French Classical Dressage, the overlaps with popular 'natural' horsemanship, and why the Ecole de Legerete is so important for learning and preserving French Classical Dressage. Brenda's own training path will help us understand why the French were such a powerhouse in the last Olympics. July 13 @ 7 PM Dr. Edward Radue - Minimizing Laminitis Risk Dr. Edward Radue is a 2015 graduate of The Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine and completed an internship at the Mid-Atlantic Equine Center in New Jersey before joining Damascus Equine Associates. His areas of concentration include podiatry and medical imaging. June 8 @ 7 PM: Dr. Catherine Nunnery, DVM - The Equine Eye, what you need to know Dr. Nunnery will cover the basic anatomy, vision, diseases and monitoring of the equine eye. If you missed her talk at the PA Horse Expo, now you've got a second chance to hear her! May 11 @ 7 PM: Sandy Hart Long, FICS of Maryland Arena Construction, Footing & Maintenance Learn about arena construction, base requirements, footing options, arena maintenance and more. April 13 @ 7 PM: Dr. Richard Card, DVM Balancing the Horse Using Applied Kinesiology Dr. Card will answer questions interactively as he works on a demo horse, much as he would when teaching students. He looks forward to bring riders up to speed in an area that is not well understood. ~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ PAST EVENTS: 2016 September 8th @ 7 PM: Dr. Michael Radebaugh, VMD - Basics of preventing equine diseases Dr. Radebaugh recently caught our attention during the quarantine of Day's End Farm which he oversaw. We are fortunate to have him share his expertise on this evening. July 14 @ 7 PM: Dr. Amy Burk - the value of pasture in the diet and how you manage it In this talk, Dr. Amy Burk will discuss why feeding pasture is good for the horse, good for the environment, and good for your wallet. Management practices to help farmers maximize pasture production will be discussed. Dr. Burk coordinates the Equine Studies Program at the University of Maryland where she teaches horse management, equine science, and pasture management and hay production. She's an equine nutritionist by training with a passion for teaching horse owners how to improve their horses health and performance through proper nutrition. July 28 - 29 7 - 9 PM Adult Horsemanship Camp at New World Stables Learn more about the basics. Use one of my horses or BYOH Day 1 - proper show grooming, parts of the horse, confirmation Day 2 - proper saddling & bridling, bridle and saddle fitting, parts of the saddle and bridle, cleaning & care Day 3 - ground work with a horse, lunging a horse Cost $125 June 9 @ 7 PM: Arlene Atkins, Equine Nutrition Specialist: Knowledgeable, Practical Advice for feeding your horses Have a horse with special dietary needs? Perhaps Arlene can help. Arlene is known by many as the Equine Nutrition Specialist at the Farmer's Cooperative in Frederick. Her education, extensive show career, experience with all medical/surgical aspects and boarding up to 45 horses uniquely qualifies her for aiding others with regards to their horses diet. [email protected] [email protected] May 12 @ 7 PM: Kathleen Tabor, Equine Law: Things You Should Know...about liability, licensing, your rights and responsibilities Whether you operate an equine business, manage a breed organization, or merely enjoy the company of horses you will be given an overview of what you should know as an equestrian. Topics that will be covered include: misconceptions of equine law, risk assessment, liability issues, waivers, negligence standards, duty of care, zoning concerns, written agreements, as well as Maryland licensing requirements and penalties. Kathleen Tabor is a Solo Practitioner at the Law Office of Kathleen JP Tabor, LLC in Maryland, March 10, 7 PM Saddle Fitting with Annette Gavin, QSF Annette is an independent Multi-Brand Fitter, certified through the Society of Master Saddlers. Stay tuned for more details as we get closer to the date. 2015 October 8 @ 7 PM: Sarah Wilson of Hands, Horses & Hounds, LLC Sarah Wilson, Certified Equine and Canine Bodywork Therapist, will discuss acupressure, craniosacral, and massage. Sarah works with the animal as a whole to achieve long-term healing results, looking beyond the symptoms and focusing on the root cause of the illness or issue. Her holistic approach helps to recognize the patterns of imbalance or disease in the body, restoring balance health by facilitating the body to regulate and heal itself. We will have hands-on demos, too. July 9, 7 PM Equine Dentistry with Elizabeth Voss If you missed this seminar last year, don't miss it this time! Elizabeth presents both how the horse's jaw & teeth work, as well as how other systems, such as hooves, affect the jaw. A fascinating presentation, complete with horse skulls to demonstrate issues. June 11, 7 PM Infared Thermography with Robin Petrasek Thermal scans can benefit all kinds of horses, from competitive athletes to hard-working school ponies. With a thermal image, an owner can pinpoint a problem a horse has before it escalates into a career-ending injury. Robin is a Level I Certified Infrared Thermographer through the Infraspection Institute, as well as an owner/manager at Talbot Run Equestrian Center. April 9, 7 PM Q & A with Kitsi Christmas Bring your insurance questions! Kitsi Christmas of Christmas Insurance Agency will answer your questions about insuring your horse, getting instructor insurance, or any other horse related insurance question. March 12, 7 PM Bits and Bitting with Tommy Smith Tommy Smith of Good Friday Farm has spent a lifetime collecting and using more bits than most of us. Come and view part of his collection, learn how different styles function, and ask your questions such as : 'My horse does........, what do you think I should try?' . 2014 September 18. Equine Acupuncture with Rebecca Douglass. Rebecca Douglass of AcuPoint Therapies LLC will speak on how to use... acupuncture to improve your horse.
